Satya's embracing community spirit

Tuesday, 12 March 2024

Satya is a retired teacher who now calls Classic Residences home.

Living in a retirement village is all about being part of a community, where friends are right next door. Just ask Satya, who now calls Classic Residences home.

When she decided to downsize, Satya saw it as an opportunity to be closer to her family. Classic Residences matched her idea of retirement—a comfy home near her loved ones, along with a community she could belong to.

A warm welcome

Moving from a big family home to a retirement village was an adjustment for Satya, but the genuine warmth and hospitality of her fellow residents quickly put her at ease.

"It took me 2 – 3 months to settle in," she recalls with a smile. "The people here were very helpful, and the management is excellent, so I never regretted it."

One way she's got involved around the village is taking on the responsibility of writing for the village newsletter - a role this retired teacher relishes!  She sees it as a vital way to keep everyone connected and informed, whether it's sharing community news, marking milestones, or welcoming new residents.

“Whenever newcomers come, we have a morning tea for them, make them feel welcome,” explains Satya, “I take their photos and put it in the newsletter so that people know who they are."

An active community

For Satya, retirement has meant being busier than ever.

From fitness classes and friendly competition on the bowls lawn, to arts and crafts and community gardening, retirement village living offers somet for all interests. Social gatherings like dinners, book club, movie nights, and outings on the village bus create many opportunities to make new friends and feel a sense of belonging.

Satya is always in tune with what's happening, and when she's not writing for the newsletter, she loves singing in the choir and getting creative with the sewing group.

“I have no time to think about anything, I’m just very busy doing things!” she laughs.

Neighbours who care

Being part of a close-knit community, Satya knows that support is never far away. She feels fortunate to have a whole village of neighbours who can provide assistance when she needs it.

“We have so many friends who are very helpful, it’s almost like having a second family here.”

Satya's experience is a testament to the vibrant community spirit that retirement villages are known for. Whether it's a friendly chat over a cup of tea, a shared hobby or interest, or lending a helping hand when needed, there's a sense of community and connection that's hard to beat.

“You never feel lonely, that’s why I like this place.”
